
Hyejun Melania Kwon
Mezzo-Soprano
Hyejun Melania Kwon is a Germany-based mezzo-soprano and a resident soloist at Theater Hagen for the current 2024/25 and upcoming 2025/26 seasons. Her roles at the house include Flora (La Traviata), Junon (Platée), the Page (Salome), and Rosalia (West Side Story). She also performs the roles of Fuchs and Passante in the opera The Little Prince.Career
Her international engagements include appearing as Carmen at Opéra Bastide in France and as a soloist in the Atelier Lyrique at the Verbier Festival in Switzerland. As a member of the NRW Opera Studio (2022–2024), she performed at Theater Dortmund, Oper Wuppertal, MiR Gelsenkirchen, and Aalto-Theater Essen in roles such as Valencienne (Die lustige Witwe), Hänsel (Hänsel und Gretel), La Suora Zelatrice (Suor Angelica), La Ciesca (Gianni Schicchi), Laura (Iolanta), Venus (Orpheus in the Underworld), and Fortuna/Valletto (L’incoronazione di Poppea).She continues to expand her career through short-notice “jump-in” engagements, notably as Flora (La Traviata) at Theater Osnabrück and La Ciesca (Gianni Schicchi) at Musiktheater im Revier Gelsenkirchen.


Awards & Scholarships
Hyejun Melania has received scholarships and awards from the Richard Wagner Federation (2026), the Mozart Gesellschaft Dortmund (2024), the Werner Richard – Dr. Carl Dörken Foundation (2024/25), and the Georg Solti Accademia & Seoul Arts Center Masterclass Program (2024). She won first prizes at the King’s Peak International Music Competition (2023), the 18th “Premio Citta’ di Padova” (2022), and the “Nouvelles Etoiles” (2022).Education
She is currently completing her Konzertexamen at the University of Music Franz Liszt Weimar (Prof. Anne Schwanewilms). She holds a Master of Music from the Hanns Eisler School of Music Berlin (Prof. Ewa Wolak) and a Bachelor of Music from Ewha Womans University (Prof. Eunhee Kim).
