Hyejun Melania Kwon delivers a compelling performance in her brief role, turning the moment she realizes the deception into a true highlight of the production.

Martina JacobiDie Deutsche Bühne

... the young Hyejun Melania Kwon expresses her wrath as an elegant, jealous, yet ultimately forgiving Juno; her round, agile, and luminous mezzo-soprano sounds highly promising.

Juno, worn down by her marriage to Jupiter. Although the wife has little to sing, the young mezzo-soprano Hyejun Melania Kwon shapes these moments beautifully.

Violetta's friend Flora Bervoix — beautifully sung by Hyejun Melania Kwon.

Bernhard StoelzelDer Opernfreund

Hyejun Melania Kwon as Flora makes people listen up with her rich mezzo-soprano, perhaps the reason she appears again at Violetta's bedside in Act III.

Flora, sung and acted excellently by Hyejun Melania Kwon.

O-Ton

The smaller roles are well cast; especially Hyejun Melania Kwon as Flora makes you take notice.

Hyejun Melania Kwon is, with deep sincerity, the Voice from Above.

She opened the Sunday morning at the Konzerthaus with two arias of Cherubino from Mozart's 'The Marriage of Figaro' — the singer's clear, beautifully guided mezzo suits this page's role wonderfully. Her Rosina from Rossini's 'Barber' was magnificent once again. The South Korean singer has a beautiful Mozart voice with much Rossini lightness.

The subjective 'Author's Prize' for the best supporting role(s) goes to Hye Jun Kwon. The young Korean singer already stood out in the prologue as Fortuna with an exceptionally beautiful, nuanced, and rounded voice. In her further roles as well, she fulfilled all musical and scenic demands with loving, detailed artistry.

As Fortuna and the page Valletto, Kwon possesses a fresh and youthful mezzo-soprano that underscores the boldness of both characters. In Valletto, one can already detect a precursor to Mozart's Cherubino.

Hyejun Kwon shapes Violetta's friend Flora Bervoix with a soft mezzo-soprano and is visually and dramatically nearly equal to the title character. She impressively portrays the brief confrontation with the Marchese d'Obigny, by whom she feels betrayed at her party in the third act — frighteningly underscoring how fragile her position in society truly is.

The role of Valencienne is well cast with Hyejun Kwon, a member of the NRW Opera Studio. With playful acting and a soft mezzo-soprano, she seductively plays out her flirtation with Camille de Rosillon while wonderfully leading her husband, Ambassador Mirko Zeta — brilliantly embodied by Sebastian Campione — by the nose. As a Grisette too, she exudes great charm.
